Forex Trading Robots for MT4 and MT5: An Overview

A Forex trading robot needs more than a platform name to work correctly. Before connecting software to MT4 or MT5, identify the broker, trading server, account type and instruments. These details determine what the program can read, which orders the account accepts and how positions are recorded.
This guide explains that preparation for New Hope PRO. It is useful when you already have a trading account and want to understand what to check before installing or buying software.
The platform, account and robot have different roles
MT4 or MT5 provides the trading environment. The broker supplies the account and sets its trading conditions. The robot follows its configured strategy and sends instructions through a supported connection. A familiar-looking chart does not establish that two accounts have the same permissions, contract specifications or execution conditions.
New Hope PRO supports several connection types, including MT4/MT5, cTrader and FIX API. Confirm the appropriate connection for your account rather than assuming every supported interface is available from every broker. The New Hope PRO product page describes the software and package options.
Prepare a connection checklist
Account identity: record the platform, broker name and exact server shown in the terminal.
Access: distinguish permission to view an account from permission to trade.
Instrument: check the complete symbol name, including any broker suffix, plus contract size and volume restrictions.
Position rules: confirm the account mode and how additional or opposite orders affect existing exposure.
Operating environment: identify the Windows machine or VPS on which the required software will run.
For example, MetaQuotes documents separate master and investor access in MT5. Investor access lets you inspect an account but does not permit trading. A successful login therefore does not, by itself, prove the robot can place orders. Keep credentials out of screenshots and public support messages.
Check position behaviour before testing a strategy
Suppose a strategy opens a buy and later sends a sell for the same instrument. The intended outcome might be to reduce exposure, close the position or hold a separate opposite position. Write down that intention first, then check whether the account and software configuration support it.
Use our MT5 hedging and netting walkthrough to understand the difference. This avoids diagnosing an account-mode mismatch as a broken entry signal or a missing trade.
Verify the full path from signal to result
Start with one instrument and a clearly documented configuration. Record the software version, connection, symbol and settings. Then compare the program log with the broker's order and deal history. Separate the signal time, order submission, broker response and actual execution.
An accepted request is not enough to assess a strategy. Check the executed volume, fill price, commissions and the position left on the account. If something fails, keep the original error and timestamp; repeated retries without checking the account can make the situation harder to understand.
Choose a practical starting point
The New Hope PRO setup guide brings the installation steps and demonstration videos together. If you are deciding between terminal access and a broker API, read the MT4 versus FIX API comparison before choosing a route.
The aim of preparation is a setup you can explain and check: the right account, valid settings, visible order results and a known procedure for stopping the program. Trading outcomes still depend on the strategy, market and execution conditions.
